Story with a perfect spell

moretea ๐Ÿšซ

It's been a long time since I read this one but was hoping to do so again, but unfortunately can't recall name or author.

It is about a guy who is using his computer to help draw symbols for spells and then casts them, whereupon something akin to a mages council gets riled up because they sensed someone casting a "perfect spell". That is one of the few details that has stuck to my mind.

This might be my memory playing tricks on me but I think there where 2 stories using that same idea, perhaps 2 revisions of the same story?

I vaguely remember something like this. Huh, no "magic" category to search

Could it be The Sight by Vax? That story is part of his A Modern Day Mage universe.

A search for "perfect spell" returns:
The Sight by Vax
The Grasp by Vax
Both part of A Modern Day Mage โ€” A Universe from the Mind of Vax

I had a quick look at Vax's stories and I think it's the one I was remembering.

Big thanks to both of you.

By the way, when I first read this "Lost Story" post, I though it was someone looking for the ONLY story with "perfect spelling", as that would indeed be a rare occurrence. ;)

No such story exist, especially since the yanks and the limeys can't agree on a common spelling for a bunch of words.

Actually for most, those are essentially inconsequential when reading as I read enough of both to easily parse the differences. I do focus on it while reading, just to be sure that what I do write isn't misinterpreted, though that's not a concern when reading casually.

American and classical British spellings are pretty well set, as are their various punctation marks, so they're easily anticipated. Though in many cases, as has already been pointed out, the American uses of many of those have become the norm simply because of the sheer volume of material (books, film, tv, online series, etc.) so in those cases, many Brits simply choose the American styles simply for simplicity and to access a broader market.

But it has never provided any errors in reading most English literature. I have a much harder time with Indian (the country) stories written in English, simply because of their different perspectives, yet that varies by region anyway.

Perhaps that's also why I'm not quite as precise with my terms, as I essentially don't notice many of them while reading. There's a big difference between regional spellings, idioms (sayings) or particular phrasings, yet it's mostly the different ways of writing that most throw me.

Mind Magi โ€” A Universe from the Mind of TechnicDragon
This is for my Master PC trilogy. Since the stories don't organize correctly in alphabetical order, I'm putting them together in this series so everyone can enjoy them in their correct order.

The perfect spell is in the second book in Vax's "A Modern Day Mage" series. First book is "The Sight." Second one is "The Touch," where the protagonist develops the ability to cast "perfect spells."

I'd forgotten about "The Grasp," going back to re-read it as soon as I'm done here. Sad to see it's listed as incomplete and inactive - I already wish it had been finished.

A similar story, which I found to be quite good, was "Program Alpha-Omega." Don't remember the author and it's no longer on SOL, but there were a couple of elements of that story that I found to be rather elegant and unique, including in particular the way the protagonist funded his education.

Program Alpha-Omega is by Eric Storm.

Yeah, as usual, I fondly remember that, yet can't remember any significant details. I have the memory of a leaky steel sieve!
