I also read LJ 5 as it was posted and it only occurred to mention the first book of that series after you mentioned the latest one.
Florida Friends series by Dual Writer has a number of encounters with the pirates, but they are generally brief.
Ka Hmnd has several stories with prominent pirate elements -- they are usually short SF adventures.
