"What if" stories?

PotomacBob ๐Ÿšซ

I call them "what if" stories, though they may other names. Example: What if the Second World War never happened? What if Hitler was assassinated before he coming to power? What if the British Empire still ruled? There've gotta be 1001 topics worth exploring in a good novel using the premise that some key point in history turne out differently than history as we know it. What if the South had won the Civil War? What if Adam had been gay? Are there already stories like this on SOL? Or works in progress?

Thank you. Curious how you found my previous query - since I tried to search before asking - and the search query did not work? The only explanation I can think of is that you have a good memory and I don't.

It won't be posted here for a couple of years. But, for more than two decades I have been writing a series of stories about "What if the Assassination attempt upon Kaiser Wilhelm I in 1878 was successful?" Resulting in Friedrich Wilhelm becoming Kaiser more than 12 years earlier, and the removal of Bismarck. As well as a significant change to the German Constitution, resulting in an actual constitutional monarchy.

I have two major stories to complete before I complete that one. I have procured more than 100 books for research for that story. (Most of those books have also been used for research for war games, and college courses.)

The more I researched, the Less I think would have been changed. At least in terms of the "Great War" (1914 to 1918). However, there would have been some significant changes from 1920 forward.
