I knew he was very sick, but I spoke to his consultant oncologist this morning and he told me that Ian just wasn't fighting any more. For some reason, that he didn't understand, Ian just seemed to have given up.

This is another spinoff from the Dr. Brandle story which is about a man who takes early retirement and relocates to a small town in northern California. There is sex in this story but it is very slow to develop and it is not overly descriptive. Readers looking for more graphic descriptions should take a pass on reading this story.
